Welcome, Fall: A New Season in the Garden

There’s something special about the beginning of fall. The air begins to change, the days slowly become shorter, and the garden starts asking us to prepare for something new.

For me, fall isn’t the end of the gardening season—it’s another opportunity to grow.

As we welcome fall, it’s time to clean out tired summer plants, refresh the soil, pull a few weeds, add some compost, and make room for a new season of food. Some plants have finished their assignment, and that’s okay. Their ending creates space for something else to grow.

 What Are You Growing This Fall?

Fall is a wonderful time to grow vegetables, herbs, and leafy greens. Depending on where you live, your fall garden might include:

• Kale, lettuce, spinach, arugula, mustard greens, Swiss chard, broccoli, cabbage, carrots, radishes, beets, cilantro, parsley, green onions, peas, and other cool-season favorites.

And you don't need a huge backyard. A few containers on a balcony or patio can become your fall food garden.

Start with what you have. One container. One packet of seeds. One little plant.

🍂 Fall Reminds Me That Change Can Be Beautiful

Gardening constantly reminds me that every season has a purpose.

Sometimes we have to pull up what has finished growing. Sometimes we prune. Sometimes we replenish the soil. And sometimes we simply have to wait.

Our lives have seasons, too.

“To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.” — Ecclesiastes 3:1

So as the season changes, I’m choosing to welcome it—not just in my garden, but in my life.

This will be our little corner of the internet to talk about growing food, plants, garden projects, seasonal gardening, garden news, lessons from the garden, self-sufficiency, and the simple joy and peace that comes from putting your hands in the soil.
